DISCOVER THE MOUNTAIN

About Mayar

Mayar is a rounded summit on the southern Mounth plateau, usually paired with Driesh. The approach from Glen Doll moves from glen country onto broad upper ground, making the transition as important as the final summit rise. Driesh provides the steeper glen-facing half of the familiar pair, while Mayar emphasises the open plateau beyond. The change of scale above Glen Doll helps explain the attraction of visiting both. A route from Glen Prosen enters the same uplands differently, with its own ridges and return rather than simply repeating the Glen Doll experience.

About the mountain

Mayar is a rounded summit on the southern Mounth plateau, usually paired with Driesh. Mayar provides one half of a varied Angus two-Munro outing. Its plateau position contrasts with the steeper glen-facing side of Driesh. The climb from Glen Doll reveals a broad upper landscape that contrasts with the steeper glen below. The final dome is only one part of that transition, with Driesh supplying a different mountain form within the familiar pair.

What the climb is like

The familiar pair approaches from Glen Doll. A Glen Prosen approach is a separate option using different ridges and paths. Match the return to the chosen starting glen. The full Glen Doll circuit and a Glen Prosen approach should retain separate descriptions. Broad upper ground still requires navigation when hidden by cloud, and the return needs to follow the selected route rather than the summit’s apparently gentle outline.

Landscape and geography

A subtle top stands within the Angus uplands. The southern Mounth extends beyond the familiar pair. Wider connections are different journeys rather than automatic additions to the Glen Doll circuit. Driesh gives the neighbouring glen-facing contrast, while the wider southern Mounth continues beyond both summits. The surrounding glens explain how separate routes enter the same plateau without making their ridge lines and returns interchangeable.
