Our Story

Scotland deserved better.

So we built it. A technical heritage brand rooted in this country - its terrain, its weather, its people.

Why Cairnova Exists

We grew up here. We walk these hills, we know this weather, we feel this terrain underfoot. Scotland is not a backdrop for what we do — it is the brief.

When it came to finding the right gear, the right route, the right community — everything pointed somewhere else. Scandinavian brands. American mountain culture. Generic forecasts built for places that are not ours.

We kept asking why Scotland — a country shaped so deeply by harsh terrain and unpredictable weather — was not producing its own premium technical outdoor brand, built specifically for these conditions. That question stayed with us.

We kept asking. And eventually we stopped asking and started building.

Cairnova is our answer to that.

What We're Building

Three answers to
the same question.

Cairnova is not simply an apparel brand. It is a comprehensive platform built around Scotland's outdoors — intelligence, equipment, and community working as one.

01

The Intelligence

Know before
you go.

Scotland's hills deserve proper intelligence. Not raw forecast data copied from somewhere else — contextualised, local knowledge that tells you where to go, what to expect, and when to stay home. Built by hillwalkers who know these mountains personally. Updated every morning before you leave the door.

02

The Apparel

Engineered for
this terrain.

Technical gear built specifically for Scottish conditions. Every material choice, every knit structure, every ventilation decision shaped by our landscape, our climate, our light. Not adapted from somewhere else. Not designed for a generic mountain. Built here, from the ground up, for wet trails and Atlantic wind and long ridge days.

03

The Community

Find your
people.

Every club, every walk, every open day — connected. Scotland's outdoor community has always existed in scattered WhatsApp groups and local Facebook pages. We are building the place where it comes together. A comprehensive directory of every hillwalking club in Scotland, and the platform for every group event.

Our Country

One of the most beautiful places
on earth. We want to keep it that way.

282 Munros. 1,500 miles of coastline. Ancient glens, volcanic peaks, dark sea lochs. Scotland is extraordinary terrain. The kind of landscape that shapes people.

The more people walk it well — with proper knowledge, proper kit, proper respect — the better understood it becomes. The better protected it becomes. That is not incidental to what we do. It is the point of it.

282 Munros Peaks over 3,000 feet. Every one monitored daily.
1,500+ Walking Routes Catalogued, condition-checked, and growing.
340+ Walking Clubs Communities connected through one directory.

The Long View

We are at
the beginning of
something.

Our long-term vision goes beyond clothing, beyond a website. We want to contribute to Scotland becoming recognised internationally as a place capable of producing premium technical outdoor equipment engineered for demanding environments.

Scotland already has the terrain, the identity, and the craftsmanship heritage. We want to give it the brand it deserves.
01 — Apparel

Manufacturing in Scotland

We are starting with socks because they are one of the most overlooked pieces of outdoor equipment — despite having a significant effect on comfort and performance over long days. But our vision is larger. We want to build a full technical apparel range, and ultimately to manufacture it in Scotland. Not just designed here — made here.

02 — Intelligence

The definitive home of Scottish hillwalking

We want Cairnova to become the first place every hillwalker in Scotland — and every visitor to Scotland's hills — turns to before they head out. Conditions, routes, clubs, kit. Everything they need, in one place, built around this landscape specifically.

03 — Community

Supporting the outdoors infrastructure

Over time, we want to support local communities, conservation efforts, and outdoor access initiatives that protect the landscapes inspiring the brand in the first place. The hills that shape Cairnova deserve to be protected by it.

A Note From The Founders

We started Cairnova because we could not find what we were looking for. Not just the right gear — the right place. Somewhere that understood Scotland the way we understand Scotland.

We are both from here. We walk these hills. We know what it feels like to check a forecast that was not built for these mountains, to wear kit that was not designed for this weather, to look for a walking group and find nothing but scattered Facebook pages.

Cairnova is the answer to all of that. It is a technical heritage brand, an intelligence platform, and a community hub — built from a genuine feeling that Scotland should have its own.

We are building it with care, with ambition, and with deep respect for the country that is both our home and our brief.

We hope it earns its place in the hills.

How We Work

The way we think
about everything.

01

Unmistakably Scottish. Modern by design. We are not imitating Scandinavian brands or American mountain culture. We want Cairnova to feel like it could only come from here.

02

Intelligence before equipment. Good decisions matter more than good gear. We build the knowledge layer first, because knowing the mountain is more valuable than anything you wear on it.

03

Durable. Refined. Built properly. We are not interested in fast fashion or seasonal drops. We want to make things that last — products and platforms designed with permanence in mind.

04

Quietly confident. Environmentally shaped. We let the work speak. No noise, no hype. Just well-made things, built for the hills we know, offered to the people who walk them.
